From an early age, MHS children become used to performing on stage; from low-key beginnings their confidence and dramatic awareness increase until in their final year they are able to put on a senior school play and leavers’ revue. Pre-Prep performances include Nativity plays, a Poetry celebration and annual music show, all presented to parents. Children are often involved in making costumes, masks and props.
In the Prep school, every year group has at least one specific performance to work towards. Year 3 have their annual Victorian play, Year 5 show off their language skills with a French play and Year 6 go one better by performing plays in Spanish and Latin! Responsibility for the senior play each Spring falls to the Years 7 and 8. Alternating between a musical and straight play, recent productions have included ‘Five Plays for Coarse Actors’, ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘Ring of Roses’.
Dance flourishes at MHS under the guidance of specialist teachers who take children of all ages and abilities for ballet, tap and modern dance. In addition, music, movement and dance feature strongly in the PE programme, particularly in the Pre-Prep. Each summer term a dance show is presented to parents. |
