Danceathon for the NSPCC

The children have had a lot of fun this week raising money for the NSPCC!

The children had a huge amount of fun in their Zumba sessions with Millie Friday this week (as did the teachers and the parents who braved the Wednesday morning session!).   They have also enjoyed learning about a variety of dancers, from Carlos Acosta and Darcy Bussell to the fast tapping shoes of the ‘Riverdance’ cast.

To add  more interest later in the week, Ms Day arranged for two young dancers (Jasmine and Anna) from Sevenoaks School to perform for most year groups.  One was predominantly ballet trained and the other Hip-Hop.  They danced solo items and then together, combining the two styles.  The children posed interesting questions during the question and answer session afterwards and discovered the importance of having a creative outlet that you love, alongside working hard at your academic subjects.   They reflected on the life skills and values that dancing to a high level requires and were very quick to see that it takes a lot of dedication and hard work to fit in all the training.   They also mentioned perseverance, which ties in very well with our ‘Growth Mindset’ philosophy at MHS.

We think Year 1 and 2 won on the Zumba front as they entered into the spirit of it all in full voice!
