Nursery

Happy, caring, stimulating

For us, the most important aim is that our children are happy. This is especially important as our youngest children are introduced to school life. Our 24 Nursery children, aged 3 – 4, feel safe and comfortable in their own bright building and garden but enjoy all the advantages of being part of a much larger school.

Praise and positive reinforcement are very important; good manners, kindness and being helpful are encouraged by stickers and certificates. We recognise that we are laying the foundations for lifelong learning; children are taught Music, French, PE and IT by specialist teachers and the team of full and part time Nursery staff are dedicated and caring.

Children attend from 3 full mornings from 8.45am with collection at 12 noon. The day begins with an assembly when the day’s activities are discussed. The children work in a variety of ways including structured and child initiated play, stories, circle time and nature walks. Group work is the norm with each group of up to 8 children (of mixed ability) spending time in different learning areas with plenty of time for play.

Afternoon sessions are available each day but optional. Children may stay for lunch and be collected at 1pm or stay until 3pm. Particularly good for developing social skills, afternoon sessions offer further opportunities for child initiated play which may include dressing up, playing in the home corner, construction toys and art and craft activities.
