The B’s did particularly well winning 7-0 against the Claremont B team and losing only 1-2 against their A team. The A team lost 2-0 against their A’s but won 7-1 against their B team. Well done all who played.

Wednesday 12th November
 1st XI Soccer v Claremont – The 1st XI had a very good end of season game. We played some very good football at times and always looked threatening going forward. We scored very early on through a corner from Hamish Cloke and Toby Block tapped it in. There were chances to add to our score but we just couldn’t manage it before half time. We started the second half a bit complacent and got punished with an equaliser for Claremont. That soon got us moving again and we scored 2 quick goals through Toby Block and Hamish Cloke, the game should have been safe! However we conceded with 5 minutes to go and made the game a little nervy towards the end but hung on for a very good win. Another plus for the season was qualifying for the regional section of the IAPS tournament. A tremendous season, well done and many thanks to all the boys for their hard work.
Result: MHS won 3 – 2. Season: played 9, won 7, lost 1, drawn 1, for 35, against 14

 2nd XI Soccer v Claremont – The Claremont 2nd XI were no match for MHS. The score was 5-0 at half-time and 11-0 at full time. Congratulations to everyone on their passing skills which gave the opportunities to Lewie Parry and Alex Edwards to both score hat-tricks. Congratulations also to Claremont who continued to behave and play their best in the face of such a defeat.
Result: MHS won 11 – 0

 Colts’ VII Soccer v Claremont – A fitting end to a hard season. The two sides were evenly matched and it certainly could have gone either way. Both teams had chances but we certainly had more and played the better football. We had a good first half with everyone battling hard and several shots at goal that just missed. We started the second half a little slowly but gradually increased momentum. Unfortunately we couldn’t get that elusive goal but considering Claremont had not lost a game all season, we did very well.
Our results sheet has not been impressive but our ability to keep trying week after week has been faultless. The team will have learnt a great deal from this and I hope they will take this away with them and use it to their advantage with the seniors next year.
Result: Draw 0 – 0

 Colts’ B VII Soccer v Claremont – This successful Colts’ B side finished their season in fine style. Olly Santini scored in the first few minutes and then MHS continued to press into the Claremont half. The second goal was a typical team effort. From a short goal kick, William Jex played the ball up the line to Olly who then crossed the ball for Will Turner to score.
In the second half, Olly scored a second but the best was yet to come! Will Turner made a long run down the left, crossed the ball for Olly to slam into the roof of the net for his hat-trick. This team has progressed extremely well throughout the season and since most of them are in Year 5, hopefully they can look forward to similar success in 2009. Well played boys! Result: MHS won 4 – 0. Final record: played 11, won 8, lost 3, for 28, against 19.

 Colts’ C VII Soccer v Claremont – The Colts’ C team ended their season with a most exciting game – dominating the play against Claremont. MHS hit the post hard no less than 4 times but it was still 0-0 half-way through the second half. Then justice prevailed, and we scored three! Hamish Heilbron captained well from the goal, our defensive trio of Ricky Alikhani, Sam Easton and Patrick Boland looked calm and assured, and our attacking foursome of Kit Lillingston-Paterson, Harry Latham-Coyle, Kit Ross and Jacob Perrett worked well together, the latter three each scoring a goal, and Harry having his best game of the season and showing the value of someone who can control the ball and lay off to create new moves. Well done on a most enjoyable season!
Result: MHS won 3 – 0

 Colts’ D VII Soccer v Claremont – This was a very closely fought contest, with the majority of the play with Claremont who passed and attacked very well. However, some excellent goal keeping from the Man of the Match, Max Chester, kept the visitors to 1 – 0 until the last 2 minutes of the game. Somewhat against the run of play, their goal keeper made an error and Edward Felton, capitalised very well to put the ball in back of the net to draw 1 – 1 . Jack Walker played well in defence, Hamish Crichton put in some excellent tackles and Finbar Turck, Fox Parker and Patrick Beech were, as always, very industrious in mid-field. A very pleasing result for their last game against tough opposition.
Result: Draw 1 – 1

GIRLS
Thursday 6th November
 U9 Red Netball team v St Ronan’s - This was a very tough game for the girls who seemed slightly overwhelmed during their match and panicked! There were some very good spells when they used the width of the court and timed their moving but they did seem to forget about moving towards the ball at times and that made it very easy for the St Ronan’s girls to intercept the ball. Some great interceptions from Izzy Cloke who, after the first quarter when we were 6-1 down, really stuck with her Goal Attack and made it far more difficult for them to get the ball in the circle. The girls must take the positives from this as their footwork was much improved as was their catching and they will work on their spacing over the next few weeks. Well done.
Result: St Ronan’s won 13 – 2

 U9 Blue Netball team v Bricklehurst Manor - They got off to a good start with a goal in the first minute from Charlotte Ford. However, Bricklehurst came back very quickly with a few goals. This resulted in MHS losing their confidence slightly and consequently their passing suffered. The girls used the space on the court well and responded to advice that was given to them at half time. Miss Rawlinson reinforced how to mark the player not the ball and to take time with the passes. Eloise Gare played well as Goal Defence and Mollie Oliver played a great last quarter, intercepting nearly every pass to the Bricklehurst Goal Shooter, preventing them from scoring any goals in the last quarter! The girls must not be disheartened by the result because they didn’t stop trying and listened well to advice. Well done girls.
Result: Bricklehurst Manor won 11 – 2

Saturday 8th November
 Years 5 & 6 Girls’ Inter-House Hockey - On Saturday the Year 5 & 6 girls braved the weather to play their Inter-House hockey tournament. The pitch looked a little like a water-based astro at some points but the girls played really well and worked hard. It was a closely fought competition with the winning team being decided on the final match.
The final results were: 1st Dunbar, 2nd Egan, 3rd Hawkings, 4th Awdry.

Wednesday 12th November
 1st Girls’ VII Hockey v Cumnor House – The girls had lots of opportunities to score early on in the game and couldn’t quite get on to the end of the long passes. Eventually with continued hard work we broke through the Cumnor defence and scored a well struck goal from Cissy Wooley. Cumnor broke back and scored a weak goal having found a hole in our defence putting us back under pressure. We went out into the second half with a little more confidence and determination. Romy Saville scored two beautiful goals to put us into a strong 3-1 lead. We continued to play well to take a well deserved win.
Result: MHS won 3 – 1

 2nd VII Hockey v Cumnor House – We were a little slow to start but played really well throughout the match and were good at holding our positions. Tati Lindars worked tirelessly throughout the game and Polly Bennett made some fantastic saves to keep the score down. Cumnor scored a good goal to take the lead in the first half. We continued to put pressure on the Cumnor defence but, despite having more of the play in the second half, we couldn’t score. The girls had a large squad of 9 players and were good at rotating into new positions. A great performance by all the players. Chloe Bird was voted as player of the match along with Polly Bennett.
Result: Cumnor House won 1 – 0
 3rd VII Hockey v Cumnor House - A bright start and some well rehearsed team play led to an early goal for the U13 C team. However, after our early dominance, we let down our guard and Cumnor scored two goals through their elusive Centre Forward who proved very hard to mark during the game. After half time we again lost concentration to let in another goal before leading a spirited comeback with a well taken goal. With two minutes left we attacked for all we were worth but to no avail and we lost 2-3. Player of the Match went to Emily Allchin who was the epitome of an effective attacking defender!
Result: Cumnor House won 3 – 2

 U11B v Cumnor House – Our two U11 B teams played half a match each against Cumnor House’s A Team. A fantastic, spirited start led to an early goal scored by Isobel Spence. Beatrice Icke, in centre midfield, worked extremely hard and excellent clearances by defenders Polly Forbes and Cornelia Bentsen took us into a 1-0 lead at half time. With a new team on the pitch, we settled in quickly and although we did not add to our goal tally, solid defending from Sophie Lunshof and Tessa Bremner kept Goal Keeper Kitty Skinner unpressured. A wonderful result and a great way to finish off a successful season for the U11 B team!
Result: MHS won 1 – 0

 U10 VII v Cumnor House - Another really good performance from the girls who never really gave Cumnor the chance to get into the match. Sophie Killick played in goal for the first half but had very little to do so Florence Montague-Wilson played there for the second half. Florence made some very good saves on her debut as the Cumnor girls came out with far more spirit in the second half. Great teamwork from all the girls enabled goals from Alice O’Connell (5), Iona Bogle (2), Rose Meddings (1) and Carys Gowers (1). It was a great opportunity for the girls to try out different positions and they all played fantastically well wherever they were put. Great teamwork and support for each other girls.
Result: MHS won 9 – 1
