Thank you to our Head Girl Sophia C and Head Boy Rex C for performing the honours of opening the new classroom, ably supported by Mr Newton and the children of Reception.

The day saw a host of outdoor learning activities for all the children. The Modern Languages Department led the way with: using 'Connect 4' to practise French verbs at the Leavers Table; Spanish in the bell tent for the older children; and a mini Spanish 'colour run' for the younger children as they toured the grounds identifying colours. Maths was enjoyed outside for much of Pre-Prep and Year 3, with Year 5 spending their maths lesson decorating the paving stones in geometric shapes as part of their introduction to angles (and street art!). Year 3 had been learning about time in maths and did a practical activity linked to clocks before designing their own clocks. After break they did a hunt around the school, linked to their topic on rainforests, before using natural objects for an activity on symmetry. Year 4 enjoyed a busy forest school session, but made time enjoy some mindful moments under the trees. 

Everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch outside, making the most of the bean bags, tents and tipis, before settling to enjoy more outside activities in the afternoon, including Games for the Prep School. Reception had story time in the bell tent which looked very snuggly, enjoyed an al fresco music class and tried their hand at creating words from natural objects. Nursery took on their own tree planting project, potting up sycamore saplings for the children to take home. Inspired by our school eco initiative and to support ‘Plant a tree for the Jubilee’, these baby trees are extra special as the parent tree grows in the nursery garden and it has kindly donated the children a sapling each!
