What inspired you to be a teacher? 

I had the most amazing geography teacher whose lessons were brilliant.  I’d always wanted to work with children, and teaching gave me this perfect opportunity.

Tell us about your path into teaching:

I originally trained as a Norlander, working as a nanny in London for several years before moving into teaching. After completing The Hornsby Diploma I worked in several different school in London before moving to Kent.

What do you love most about teaching?

I love that I am constantly learning and teaching makes it impossible to be bored! You add to your skills everyday and soon realise that children are the best teachers and being with them teaches you many things.

What were you like at school?

I was very quiet, but sporty which gave me confidence. I made lifelong friends at school and remember it as a time of great contentment in my life.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I had always wanted to work with children and can’t remember ever wanting to do anything else - except for a brief time at sixteen when I thought I’d join the circus!

What’s the most important lesson you can teach?

To believe in yourself. Good self-esteem can make such a difference to a child. If they believe they can do it, they are far more likely to succeed.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?

The eureka moments. Watching a child’s face light up when they realise ‘they’ve got it’ is second to none in my day.

What are you most excited about at Marlborough House this term/year?

I’m really looking forward to Book Week. The children love dressing up as their favourite characters and enter into the activities with such enthusiasm. It is such a wonderful way to celebrate stories. I adore reading and love watching the children lose themselves in their books. I don’t think we should ever underestimate the value of reading. 

What makes Marlborough House such a special place to be?  

The people. Where else can you spend so much time with other people who love what they do. MHS is a real family and everyone looks out for each other.
