Staff Snapshot interview with Mrs Walker

Our staff snapshot interview this week is with Mrs Walker, Head of RS and PSHE.

What inspired you to be a teacher?

Working as at a Summer Camp in Arizona when I was on my gap year.

Tell us about your path into teaching:

Before coming to MHS I worked as a Primary School teacher in Hastings. After that I spent some time in special education, first at a small unit for autistic children and then at a school attached to a children’s home.

What do you love most about teaching?

I love working alongside the children, helping them to overcome challenges and celebrate their successes. I also love the opportunity to work amongst like-minded teachers who have such a passion for our profession.

What were you like at school?

At school I was rather naughty! Quite a joker and often in trouble for talking too much!

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An actor

What’s the funniest moment you’ve had at MHS?

I once locked a parent in a cupboard at the end of term! I thought I was playing a joke on Mrs Atkins!

What’s the most important lesson you can teach?

To ask for help if you are struggling and to treat everyone with kindness.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?

When I became Head of Middle School at MHS

What are you most excited about at Marlborough House this term/year?

I am so excited about our Jigsaw PHSE lessons that are being taught throughout the school!
