Staff Snapshot Interview with Mr Keates

Our Snapshot Interview this week is with Mr Keates, our Head of Housekeeping.

Tell us about your path into your job at MHS:

I am a qualified joiner by trade and I worked in theatre part-time for 5 years. I used to work at a holiday park in charge of accommodation, then I moved to Head of Housekeeping at a secondary boarding school, before moving to MHS as Head of Housekeeping

What do you love most about working at MHS?

The people I work with are fantastic and all the staff are so friendly

What were you like at school?

I was good at School and enjoyed learning, but I was the class comic!

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I enjoyed films and wanted to be a film director

What’s the funniest moment you’ve had at MHS?

I started here in February 2020 and I was introduced at a staff meeting as being a Covid adviser from the Government!

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?

There are a few I’m proud of: I once made a gazebo for Buckingham Palace, I built the set for a play of “Little shop of horrors”, I built the shop on the stage. Also, helping to keep the children and staff safe, by leading the MHS Housekeeping team to clean the School during the height of the Covid pandemic

What are you most excited about at Marlborough House this term/year?

With the new additions to the Housekeeping team and a new structure, I’m looking forward to delivering ever-improving cleaning standards around the School

What makes Marlborough House such a special place to be?

I’m lucky to have a great Housekeeping team, however all the staff here are so wonderfully friendly. It’s also a pleasure to be at a School with such polite pupils.
