This week our Staff Snapshot Interview is with the lovely Miss Edwards, who works in the Nursery as one of our Early Years Practitioners.
What inspired you to be a teacher?
I always knew from a young age that I wanted to work with children and wanted to pass on my love of learning. I taught children to horse ride as soon as I was old enough and that confirmed to me that I wanted to inspire children and make a difference.
Tell us about your path into teaching:
I went to College to study Childcare and Education and was inspired by my tutors to go on to do my degree in Early Years, where I achieved my Early Years Teacher Status and an Outstanding Achievement award.
What do you love most about teaching?
I absolutely love that you never know what your day might bring or what the children might say!
What were you like at school?
I was always keen to please but painfully shy! I was more a child happily standing in the background rather than one being centre of attention at the front of the stage.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I thought I would work with children and animals, but soon realised mixing the two together was quite challenging!
What’s the funniest moment you’ve had in a classroom?
Being told on my 25th Birthday by a 3-year-old that I was too old and needed to go in a Nursing home!
What’s the most important lesson you can teach?
My Nan always used to say to me “Life is too short”, so I want to teach the children to seize every opportunity and enjoy each day.
What are you most excited about at Marlborough House this term/year?
Christmas and everything about it, working in Early Years at this time of year is truly magical. From the Pantomime, the Christmas lunch and of course the Nativity, it’s such a wonderful time for the children.
What makes Marlborough House such a special place to be?
I have to say the Nursery team, I feel extremely lucky to work with such lovely colleagues. The children always seem so happy around School and I believe it’s because of the huge effort the staff put in.
