OM's start-up recognised in top 100 list

We were delighted to hear from OM James Hagerty (MHS 1999-2006), whose ethical coffee business, Presto Coffee, has just been recognised as one of the Top 100 most disruptive new UK businesses by startups.co.uk.

The Startups 100 is the UK’s longest running index of disruptive new startups and Presto Coffee is proud to have made the 2021 list, the only coffee company to do so. Presto Coffee, is the only coffee company included in this prestigious list that previously identified brands including Revolut, Deliveroo, HelloFresh and Bulb

Presto Coffee, launched in 2018 with the aim of shaking up the coffee market, inspired to create delicious tasting coffee that doesn’t cost the earth - both in terms of cost to the consumer and to the planet. Its founder, James Hagerty (hailing originally from Tunbridge Wells and now residing in Tonbridge, Kent), has seen first-hand the environmental degradation caused by coffee plantations and wanted to drive change in an industry whose end product he loves.

James said: “Coffee has always been a passion of mine and to find out it is sourced, shipped and delivered in the same way as it was over 50 years ago was a real wake-up call, Here at Presto we air roast our beans instead of drum roasting to save waste heat, while working to order to maximise freshness and taste quality. We ship our beans, never fly them and we’ve incorporated 100% kerbside recyclable packaging across each and every Presto product, making it as easy as possible for customers to do their bit for the environment.”

“I’m incredibly I’m very proud that Presto has been ranked 67th in Startups.co.uk’s Startups 100 list. As a countdown to the UK’s most innovative, inspiring and ground-breaking companies, it’s testament to the team’s hard work and commitment. We’re absolutely delighted to have been included!”

Congratulations James!
