What inspired you to be a teacher?
All the wonderful teachers I had at Marlborough House School inspired me to become a teacher. I always loved school and felt very supported and encouraged to be confident in who I am!
Tell us about your path into teaching
My journey into teaching began with desire to make a positive difference in the lives of young learners. After studying Psychology at Newcastle University, I embarked on a path towards becoming a qualified teacher.
I completed my PGCE at Roehampton University, where I gained practical experience through placements in diverse classroom settings – witnessing first-hand the transformative impact that teaching can have on children's lives.
Following the completion of my PGCE, I embarked on an enriching career in teaching, spanning over a decade in London and teaching at Thomas’s Battersea for the past 8 years.
My experiences in teaching across EYFS and KS1 have shaped me into the educator I am today – one who is passionate about creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences, fostering positive relationships with students and families, and empowering children to ask questions and think critically about the world they are in. As I embark on this new chapter as the Head of Pre-Prep, I am excited to bring my wealth of knowledge, expertise, and enthusiasm for teaching to further enrich the educational journey of our students.
What do you love most about teaching?
My love of teaching lies in helping children discover who they are and unlocking their limitless potential. I believe that every child possesses a spark of brilliance waiting to be ignited, and it is our responsibility as educators to nurture and cultivate this spark. Whether through academic pursuits, creative endeavours, or personal growth, I am committed to providing a supportive and enriching environment where children can flourish and thrive.
What were you like at school?
It may be sad to admit but I think I was a bit of a teacher’s pet. That being said, I may be remembering it wrong – for the more accurate answer it may be best to ask Mr Mathers.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When asked this question in an assembly at school, I remember my answer clearly –‘I want to be happy’.
What’s the funniest moment you’ve had in a classroom?
Oh, there are so many it’s too hard to choose one. When I taught in Reception, I laughed every day. Fouryear olds are full of comedy gold!
What’s the most important lesson you can teach?
How to feel confident in who you are.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
Getting the role as Head of Pre-Prep in a school that is close to my heart.
What are you most excited about at Marlborough House this term/year?
I am really excited about the whole summer term. It is such a joyful and inspiring time of year!
What makes Marlborough House such a special place to be?
The children, the staff, the values, the grounds – I may be biased but I really feel it has it all!
