Robin Hood On Trial

As part of their studies into the legends of Robin Hood, Year 4 performed a play titled “Robin Hood on Trial”.

One of our most beautiful locations in grounds was transformed into Sherwood Forest and, beneath the branches, the children regaled their parents in the tales, legends and tribulations of the famous Archer of Nottingham. The children displayed a wide range of talents, as well as acting; the story was told through ballads, poems, freeze frames and songs, including an interlude of a traditional dance. In the second act, the children really embodied their characters, Robin stood trial and the Sheriff and his Henchmen set out his prosecution. Each child in Year 4 chose their side, whether to stand in defence of Robin or against him, pleading their own individual cases and giving their evidence.

The children enjoyed writing their own parts, fitting their costumes, getting involved with decorating the stage and learning their stage directions as well as their lines. It was an incredibly memorable, enjoyable and entertaining performance.

A huge thank you goes to Mr Townsend for the huge job of creating an outdoor theatre in the grounds, to Ms Philip for the music and Mrs Robinson for the costumes.
