Year 3 head to the woods ....

“If you go down to the woods…..”

Last week our Year 3 children visited Wilderness Woods for a day of wild investigation linked to their Life Cycles topic.  We were greeted by the brilliantly named ‘Wriggly’ who led us on a ‘spotting and gathering’ nature walk.  She told us which plants not to touch and encouraged us to look closely at the plant and insect life all around, thinking about what stage each was at in its life cycle.   We marvelled at the tiny pine cones produced by the gigantic cedar redwood and, with our gathered natural materials, made pictures on the theme of life cycles with branches as picture frames.

After a much needed lunch, we embarked on an ‘A-Z’ walk.  Along the way we enjoyed a peaceful contemplation of the sounds of the woods and were delighted by the noisy chirruping of fledglings in their nesting boxes.

A wonderful day in the woods, enjoyed by all!
