What inspired you to be a teacher?

To work in an environment where no two days are the same and where what I do really matters.

Tell us about your path into teaching:

I worked as a singer and singing teacher for many years and supported my artist's salary with a wide range of roles. I ran an a cappela choir and worked in live and recorded music. I always enjoyed teaching and after I had my first child, I wanted to look for a more structured career, so I studied for my degree through the Open University whilst working and caring for my daughter. I then went onto do my PGCE at Kingston University.

What do you love most about teaching?

I love those moments when things 'click' into place for a child and I can share in their joy and pride. 

What were you like at school?

I worked hard and held comedy shows at lunchtime! My favourite subjects were Drama, English, Languages and Geography

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I never had a master plan - I wanted to be happy and to always be discovering.

What’s the funniest moment you’ve had in a classroom?

When teaching in Reception I found two boys drinking the dirty paint water. When I asked them if they had, they both solemnly shook their heads - I then asked one of them if the other had been drinking the paint water at which point he looked at the ring of paint around his friend's mouth and had to concede!

What’s the most important lesson you can teach?

To know what it feels like to do your best and to help children to develop their own motivation to succeed. 

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?

Supporting a child with speech and language difficulties to make huge progress.

What are you most excited about at Marlborough House this term/year?

I'm looking forward to getting all Christmassy in the next half of term!

What makes Marlborough House such a special place to be?

Being at work feels like being part of a really supportive team and it is a pleasure to be within the beautiful school grounds.
