We are delighted to have received a gold award from the Woodland Trust for getting involved in green activities including tree planting, visiting local woodlands, reducing carbon emissions and recycling.
The Green Tree Schools initiative offers the opportunity to bring the great outdoors, wildlife and green issues into the classroom. Schools can win awards for taking part in a range of green activities.
We have participated in Green Tree Schools activities for many years, achieving our bronze and silver awards and working towards gold. Earlier this year, we planted over 200 new trees, creating a woodland walk in our school grounds and securing a gold award. The new trees have been planted to create microforest of dense fast-growing native woodland, designed to support carbon capture, local wildlife and provide an additional outdoor learning environment for pupils.
Mrs Lowe, Head of Eco and Year 1 Teacher said: “As a school we are so proud to see the accumulation of all our hard work and we look forward to watching the development of our microforest.”
We received congratulation from Karen Letten, Woodland Trust Schools and Communities Engagement Manager, who said: “The scheme promotes a range of opportunities, each designed to stimulate a child’s imagination and sustain their interest in woods and trees. Having achieved the environmental accolade of a gold award, I hope Marlborough House School will now consider going for our next accolade, the prestigious platinum award.”
