Staff Snapshot Interview with Mrs Coombs

What inspired you to be a teacher?

I love working with people and children. As a child, I actually didn't like school too much and therefore as a teacher I was really keen to 'make a difference’ and to make learning fun.

Tell us about your path into teaching:

I loved children and decided at quite a young age to train to be a teacher.  I was a nanny during my University holidays and I also used this time to train to be a Pony Club riding instructor.

What do you love most about teaching?

What I learn from the children. The way they look at life, their perceptions and opinions all mean a lot to me.

What were you like at school?

I am sorry to say that I could be a little opinionated and sometimes a bit challenging!

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A famous event rider.

What’s the funniest moment you’ve had in a classroom?

Falling flat on my bottom while walking down a muddy bank, then having to walk around covered in mud for the rest of the day!

What’s the most important lesson you can teach?

Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them up.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?

Every time a child smiles back at you, every time a child tells you they loved the lesson or says thank you, these are the proudest moments.

What are you most excited about at Marlborough House this year?

Spring time, new life, new adventures and the development of our outdoor space and outdoor learning. Being outside is good for the soul and a happy child learns well.

What makes Marlborough House such a special place to be?

Every teacher here cares, they treat everyone with respect and compassion, this means a lot.
