On our trip we were focusing on the Anglo-Saxon period, specifically at the houses they lived in and the tools they used, to complement our classroom learning. We had an exciting workshop which explained in detail how Anglo-Saxon houses were made and the pupils were able to explore a replica Hall House that has been built on the site, using traditional methods. They also had the opportunity to split wood in the traditional Anglo-Saxon way, which was essential in construction. We then explored the rest of the site and were able to explore houses built through time, a working mill and traditional bread oven. The pupils were also very exciting to see the TV set for the BBC’s repair shop which many of them watch!
