At the beginning of November, our Year 5 pupils visited the Science Museum in London to begin their topic all about Space Exploration and the Solar System!
A new Exhibit called “Science Fiction: Voyage to Imagination” was our first stop once inside. An Artificial Intelligence from another planet known as A.L.A.N.N. greeted us and took us on a journey into our imaginations building on some of the greatest works of science fiction and showing us how these have helped shape our past and how they might shape the future.
The children then visited the Explore Space Gallery; they were able to see some fascinating artefacts including moon rock, Tim Peake’s Soyuz capsule and (most exciting!) Steven Hawking’s spectacles. They enjoyed trying to perform experiments with space gloves on and learning how astronauts went to the loo in space. They completed a scavenger hunt spotting specific items of interest as we walked around the galleries. A popular part of the visit was the Wonderlab! The group immersed themselves in the interactive and investigative elements, the friction slides and pulley chairs, they had the opportunity to see the Tesla coil in action and visit the chemical reactions bar.
A very big thank you to the Year 5 parents for the promptness of the early drop off, to the Catering Team for our lovely packed lunches and the Housekeeping Department for cleaning the Hi Vis Jackets ready for the trip.
Huge thanks to Miss Allfrey and Mr Little for accompanying and Mr Payne-Cook for his knowledge and enthusiasm! Lastly a special thank you goes to the Year 5 cohort for being patient on the coach, keeping interested in the content, asking great questions, and exploring. We all had a memorable experience.
