Year 4's Trip to Great Dixter

On the 10th of June, Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic day out at Great Dixter.

The morning began with sketching and habitat investigations, where the children explored the beautiful gardens and carefully observed the variety of plants and animals living there. They practiced their drawing skills, capturing the intricate details of leaves, flowers, and insects.

Next, the group moved on to printing activities, using paints and rollers. This hands-on experience was followed by scientific research, where the children learned about different species and the importance of habitats in supporting wildlife.

One of the highlights of the day was pond dipping. Equipped with nets and trays, the children carefully explored the pond’s edge to discover the fascinating creatures that live in the water, such as pond snails, water beetles, and nymphs.

In the afternoon, the fun continued with forest school activities. The children spent time outdoors learning about the woodland environment, culminating in outside cooking over an open fire. This gave them the chance to work together, develop practical skills, and enjoy their delicious cooked treats in the fresh air.

The trip to Great Dixter was both educational and enjoyable, providing Year 4 with memorable experiences and a deeper appreciation for nature.
