On one of the hottest days of the year, Year 1 set off on a fantastic adventure to the Big Cat Sanctuary.
After arriving and being taken to a very wonderful (and air conditioned!) classroom, we started our day with a fun, educational workshop all about the different cats and learnt how to tell different cats by their spots, stripes, sizes, and roars. Who knew that big cats roar and small cats only purr! We were lucky enough to explore a range of artefacts such as tiger's teeth and had the opportunity to touch a real tiger, leopard, puma and lion fur.
The real excitement began after lunch where we had a tour all around the beautiful grounds and were lucky enough to see leopards, cheetahs, tigers, lions and a beautiful jaguar called Maya. We also met Willow, the cheetah who proudly came up to the fence to say hello and we could even hear her purring! The children listened beautifully to our guide, Gill and asked brilliant questions throughout the day. The children certainly returned to school with lots of new knowledge about big cats and how we can protect them. What a very special place the Big Cat Sanctuary is!
