To bring the summer term to a close, our Year 8s wowed audiences with their atmospheric and emotive portrayal of Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'.

This was a huge undertaking for the cast - they had to grapple with the challenging intricacies of the Bard’s language, get beneath the skin of many complex characters, and understand the inter-weaving themes of the story. Yet they all rose wonderfully to the challenge and presented a play that was both powerful and thought-provoking.

Although a small cast, they worked supportively together, and their team spirit, their enthusiasm, and their commitment to the show impressed all. Special mention must go to Sophie O as the power-crazed Macbeth, to Annabel J as the scheming Lady Macbeth and to Toby G as the vengeful MacDuff but the whole cast brought their characters to life with confidence, skill and control - Mrs McEwan and I couldn't be more proud of them all.

Having seen such a brilliant performance, we will have to disagree with Macbeth who said that 'life's but a walking shadow: a poor player who struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more.' There was nothing 'poor' about our Year 8 players and we are sure that we will hear plenty more from them, and their many successes, as they move on to the next stage of their academic careers. Very well done to them all!
