Rich Pickings for Nursery down on the Farm

With Vegetables as our topic and carrot soup on the menu it was a good job that the MHS Nursery  headed off on their annual trip to Chittenden Farm in Staplehurst.

Ms Coatz and Mrs BG took the wheels of the minibuses and,  in glorious sunshine and high excitement, we set off to discover how and where our fruit and veg grows.

Met by Mr Breach we headed for the Polytunnels where we ate our fill of wonderful cherry tomatoes. Next a spot of digging to discover the potatoes and to load our sacks up with freshly dug spuds. Then, after a beautiful walk through the orchards, where Isabella discovered that Mr Breach grows upwards of 20 types of apple, it was time to pick a juicy apple to eat and another for our pockets.

Next stop, the farm shop where it was out with our shopping lists and money and where  we filled a basket with fresh fruit and vegetables to take back to the MHS Nursery.

Thanks to Mrs Reid and our drivers for joining us and huge thank you to Mr Breach and all at Chittenden Farm for their hospitality and for making this trip such a delight for our very youngest children.

If you are Staplehurst way do visit the farm shop and see for yourself the vast array of apples and pears.  If you are quick there may be some cherry tomatoes left, although we did eat quite a few!
