Informal Drama Presentation

On Thursday evening our five Year 8 Drama Scholars treated their audience to an evening of fine acting and entertainment at our annual Informal Drama Presentation Event.

The students are preparing for Drama Scholarships at a variety of schools including Tonbridge, Hurst, Sutton Valance and Ardingly. As part of the  selection process the children have to learn and perform monologues from published plays. Therefore, Thursday evening was the perfect opportunity for the students to 'test-drive' their work. And they did not disappoint.

Emma C-B started the evening with a committed performance from Alan Ayckbourn where she convincingly shared the stage with her imaginary friend. Isabella R then ably tackled George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, giving a passionate interpretation of the distraught Eliza Doolittle. Corey L performed next with a very amusing monologue by Anne Odden, where the main character unwittingly sets his sister up on a date with his... English Teacher! Pippa J then powerfully performed a bitter sweet piece about the pain, denial and gallows humour in separation called, I ate the divorce papers. Finally, our evening came to a close with Lydia Q showing great character and contrast as she performed Under Hypnosis, where her character is hypnotised and reveals more than she intends to about a secret indiscretion.

The children were simply brilliant and showed great commitment, confidence and ability. We all wish them every success in their upcoming scholarship trials.

Thank you to Mr Little, Head of Drama, for organising this event.
