YEar 4 Trip to Great Dixter

On Tuesday 22nd June, Year 4 visited the gardens at Great Dixter to explore the wondrous variety of plant and insect life.

The children enjoyed a morning of sketching in the garden and exploring the maze of pathways and the numerous different types of flowers and plants there. As they are studying plants in Science this term it was brilliant for them to have the opportunity to see the parts of flowers and the process of pollination happening live in front of their eyes.

They described the day as the “best day ever” as they walked to the forest, playing at hiding from the Sheriff of Nottingham’s Men! They foraged for elderflower and made their batter to cook elderflower fritters. Once they had arrived in the forest, they built a fire and became expert den-builders, whittlers and archers!  It was a wonderful birthday for Jasper S and all of Year 4 had a fantastic, unforgettable experience. Thank you Great Dixter!
