Years 7 and 8 Trip to Shakespeare's Globe at Hever Castle

Towards the start of term, Years 8 and 7 had the pleasure of a trip to the beautiful Hever Castle to see the Shakespeare’s Globe production of Julius Caesar.

The venue is set in the most idyllic spot, surrounded by the gorgeous gardens with the castle in the background and we were able to enjoy our picnic lunch in the grounds thanks to the lovely weather. Soon we were seated in the delightful Festival Theatre and were immediately thrown into the action with the troupe of actors inviting audience participation from the start. We cheered and booed as commanded and thoroughly enjoyed this part.

At times, the show was quite challenging for many of us to follow, as it is one which heavily relies on dialogue, but the intrigue and conspiracy and the more blood thirsty moments provided great entertainment for us all. The children also enjoyed seeing the actors strolling around the grounds between scenes and during the interval and at the end the troupe applauded our school’s enthusiasm and energy. It is a lovely venue and an engaging way to experience Shakespeare despite the intrusion of modern technology from time to time in the form of aircraft overhead from nearby Gatwick! Nevertheless, it was a lovely way to enjoy the experience of live theatre again.
